CareerWise pathways

CareerWise and HealthCarePathway are two websites where you and your students can explore a variety of career options. The CareerWise site provides an educational pathway for 141 jobs in the “healthcare cluster.” Click on any career to see a job description, average hourly wage and the education needed to work in that area.

The HealthCarePathway site describes programs available at Minnesota colleges and universities from certification programs to graduate degrees.

Many high school students don’t know that many careers in healthcare require little more than a high school diploma/equivalent — or a certificate that can be earned in less than a year. Examples include:

  • Ambulance Driver
  • Anesthesia Technician
  • EMT
  • Medical Assistant
  • Medical Biller & Coder
  • Medical Secretary
  • Medical Transcriptionist
  • Nursing Assistant
  • MRI Technician
  • Personal Trainer
  • Pharmacy Technician
  • Ophthalmology Assistant
  • Phlebotomist
  • Psychiatric Technician
  • Radiology Technician

Students can also analyze which jobs will be in high demand by visiting the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED) website.

“A special thank you to the MN instructors and faculty who provided resources for curriculum development and revision along with ideas for experiential learning for students in healthcare careers!”

Sue Field, HFM Director of Healthcare Education and Industry Partnerships
